Online registration open for summer playground program

The Brookside Villa/Westwoods will hold a neighborhood garage sale 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 18.

Lower Lehigh AARP will meet noon June 6 for a picnic in the lower level of Macungie Memorial Hall. Tickets are required. There will be no meetings in July or August. For more information, contact Dot at 610-967-3284.

The Lower Macungie Township Senior Citizens will meet noon June 4 at the Lower Macungie Township Community Center.

The Alburtis Seniors will meet noon June 19 at Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Quarry Road, Alburtis. For more information, call Doris at 610-966-3653.

Lower Macungie Pool will open May 25. Hours are noon to 8 p.m. May 25-27, June 1-2 and June 8-July 31. The pool will only be open on weekends until June 8. Adult lap swim will be available 9-10 a.m. and 10-11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday mornings. Preregistration is required. The pool will close 4:45 p.m. for swim meets June 17, 27, July 1 and 11. Swim lessons are also available.

Summer concerts are back. Alex Buono Band will play sounds of the 60s, 70s and 80s 6-8 p.m. June 1; PA Shakespeare Festival will perform “The Comedy of Errors” 6-8 p.m. June 7; Elijah Smith & Band will perform alternative/roots-rock 6-8:30 p.m. June 8; Tookany Creek Bluegrass will perform 6-8 p.m. June 14 and Chuck Rismiller will perform songs of Johnny Cash and friends 6:30-8:30 p.m. June 22 at the Hills at Lockridge Park Bandshell, 7125 Scenic View Drive, Macungie.

Lower Macungie Township has partnered with Upper Macungie Township to offer memberships to the Splash Park.

The summer playground program runs June 24 through Aug. 9 for children ages 6-11 years. Online registration for Lower Macungie Township residents is open.

Lower Macungie Township now offers indoor pickleball at the community center gymnasium. Advance registration is required.

Open gym is available at the community center. Residents must purchase an annual membership to use the gym.

Lower Macungie Township offers many programs for adults and children. For more information, go to http://www.lowermac.com/recreation/activities-programs/. Adult classes include baking, belly dance, yoga, karate, ballroom dance and tai chi. Youth classes include cooking, Kindermusik, Safe Sitter, tennis, pre-ballet and tot sports.

Yard waste center hours for May are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and Friday and noon to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Hours for June 1 through Oct. 31 are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday. Yard waste permits are required for drop-off. The center is located at 5536 Indian Creek Road, Macungie.

Weekly curbside collection of grass clippings has begun. Collection will take place the day after your regular trash day the weeks of May 27, June 10 and 24.

Lower Macungie Library hours are 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The library will be closed May 25 and 27 for Memorial Day Weekend.

The Teen Advisory Board for grades 6-12 will meet 4-5:30 p.m. May 16 for pizza and planning. They will meet 4-5:30 p.m. June 6 and 20 to discuss books and programs.

A new book club – Alburtis Afternoon Book Club – will meet 1-2:30 p.m. May 16 to discuss “The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane” by Lisa See. The book for June 20 is “Firefly Lane” by Kristin Hannah. The book club will meet at the Alburtis Community Center.

Craftastic Kids will meet 6-7 p.m. May 20 to make a flower craft and June 20 to make a horse inspired craft.

A Build It! Block Party for ages 2-6 years with an adult will meet 10-11 a.m. May 21 and June 7.

There will be a Sensory Movie Matinee 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 21 for adults with developmental disabilities and their caregivers.

Afternoon at the Movies will present “The Secret Garden” for grade 2 through adult 4-6:30 p.m. May 21.

Honoring Our Patriotic Heroes for grades K-5 will be held 6-7 p.m. May 22.

Get In The Game for families is an opportunity to play your favorite games 6-8 p.m. May 23.

Sensory Coloring and Crafting for Adults will be held 11 a.m. to noon May 28.

Sunny Day Storytime will be held 10:30-11 a.m. May 29, June 19 and 26 for children ages 2-5 years. This story time will be held outdoors; in case of inclement weather, it will move indoors with a limited number of spaces available.

Fun, Friendship and Fiber Arts (for adults) will meet 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. May 31. Bring your projects and make friends and share ideas.

Up, Up, and Away to Summer Days! for grades K-5 to create a hot-air balloon craft will be held 6-7 p.m. June 5.

The Lower Macungie Library Book Club book for 10:30 a.m. to noon June 5 is “Pineapple Street” by Jenny Jackson. The book for July 3 is “Florence Adler Swims Forever” by Rachel Beanland. The book club meets virtually.

The summer reading club kickoff of “Passport to Adventure” will be held 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 8. The program is open to readers ages 2 years to adult.

Fun With Reptiles will be offered for kindergarten and up 11 a.m. to noon June 8. P.T. Reptiles will bring live reptiles to the library.

Paws to Read for all ages will return 6-7 p.m. June 10. Lehigh Valley Pet Therapy dogs with their handlers will hang out and meet young readers.

There will be two showings of “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” June 11. The first showing will be 10-11:30 a.m. and the second 5-6:30 p.m. There will be popcorn, snacks and coloring pages.

Books & Beyond will meet June 10 to talk about books, music, movies and more.

Creative Crafts in Alburtis for youth will be offered 3:30-4:30 p.m. June 11 and June 25 at the Alburtis Community Center.

The movie “Babe” for youth and their families will be shown 1-2:30 p.m. June 15. Bring a blanket and water bottle; popcorn is provided.

There will be a teen movie night for grades 6-12 with a choice of 5 movies 6-7:30 p.m. June 17.

Disney Karaoke for families will be held 1-2 p.m. June 18.

Toddler Sign Language Storytime for ages 2-4 years will be held weekly 10-10:30 a.m. starting June 20. The story time will include reading fun stories and learning about American Sign Language from a deaf librarian.

There are many toddler and preschool story times as well as children’s programs. Check the website for dates and times.
