New Crochet Crew club begins at George Wolf Elementary
Stephanie Mohler has been a teacher at George Wolf Elementary School, 300 Allen St., Bath, for eight years. When she’s not teaching, she’s crocheting. It’s a hobby Mohler said she learned from her grandmother.
“I love to crochet and give the items I make as gifts. It has been something that I continue to enjoy doing,” Mohler said.
But she wanted to take this ‘hobby’ even further. Mohler said she saw the value in crocheting and wanted to see if any students at George Wolf Elementary would be interested in learning. Luckily, they did.
“We had a great response from the students,” Mohler said.
That’s when she decided to create the Crochet Crew. The Crochet Crew is a club for fifth-grade students to meet once a week after school.
“I was happy seeing the students wanting to participate in something that was enjoyable to them,” Mohler said. “It is great to get away from technology and make something by hand.”
The Crochet Crew is currently focused on the beginning stages of crocheting.
“We focus on the basic stitches and the proper way to hold the crochet hook. We are currently crocheting squares,” Mohler said.
Those squares were put together into something bigger.
“We will be stitching the squares together to make a blanket,” Mohler explained.
The blanket was donated to Alexandria Manor in Bath “so that it may be given to a resident to enjoy,” Mohler said.
Mohler said the students have even made her a few things, something she’s grateful for.
“Many of the students have crocheted me small gifts, and I truly appreciate it and will cherish them forever,” Mohler said.
If anyone has experience crocheting and is interested in helping in the Crochet Crew, they meet at George Wolf 3:30-4:30 p.m. Mondays in the library. Clearances are required.
