Joint veterans group plans outreach event
Northampton Hungarian Hall, 1300 Stewart St., was the location of a veterans outreach event April 13.
The event was sponsored by Joint Veterans of Northampton and Valley Health Partners, whose office is located at Lehigh Valley Hospital, 17th Street, in the former Allentown Hospital School of Nursing.
Numerous organizations that provide services and assistance to veterans and their families were present. Services offered ranged from opportunities to learn about the myriad groups in the Lehigh Valley helping veterans, housing, retirement information, day-to-day assistance and how to navigate the Veterans Benefits Administration.
Groups present included, to name a few, Battle Borne, CareerLink, Care Patrol, VA Vet Center, Women Veterans Empowered and Thriving, Treatment Trends, Blue Star Mothers of America-Lehigh Valley chapter, Victory House of Lehigh Valley, AARP and a representative for U.S. Congresswoman Susan Wild, D-7th.
All of the groups present can be found online.
Larry Schlittler, commander of Northampton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4714, was present to support the event. Bruce Shellock, commander of Catholic War Veterans Post 454, welcomed and helped attendees as they entered the hall. Members of Northampton American Legion Post 353 were also present. These three groups make up the Joint Veterans of Northampton consortium.
The kitchen was open, offering a light lunch with coffee, doughnuts and refreshments.
The event offered valuable resources for veterans and their families and an opportunity for area veterans to reconnect and share the unique stories of their service to the cause of freedom and the nation.
