EHS names student of the week

Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?

A. I am currently a senior at Emmaus High School.

Q. Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.

A. My mother’s name is Jen, my father’s name is Tom and I have two older siblings, Alexis and Tommy.

Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?

A. My favorite subject is music. For as long as I can remember, music classes have always been the highlight of my day. Whether it be a choir class, music theory or music history, it has always felt like a safe and comforting space for me where I can be myself and am surrounded by those with similar interests.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. I have been on the Principal’s Honor Roll for all my years at EHS, received the French 3 Award in 2022, was inducted into National Honor Society, French Honor Society and Tri-M Music Honor Society. I was elected secretary of Tri-M Music Honor Society.

Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities? How has being involved in these organizations impacted your high school experience?

A. Outside of high school, I have been dancing at Coral’s Academy of Dance in Emmaus since 2011 and have been teaching ballet to 5- and 6-year-olds since last year. I also enjoy volunteering at my former elementary school, Lincoln Elementary School. At the high school, I am in the EHS Chorale, president of Aca Bella, the advanced girls a cappella group and I play in a small band with five of my close friends. Through these experiences, I’ve had the opportunity to work with many amazing mentors and teachers, learn a lot about myself as a person and meet some of my closest friends.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. My biggest challenge so far has been learning how to balance everything I’m involved in and making sure I prioritize myself and not take on more than I can handle.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. My next goal is to attend college to pursue music education and become a teacher.

Q. Whom do you hope to emulate? Why?

A. I hope to emulate my dance teacher, Coral. She has taught me so much more than dance. Not only has she always been a huge supporter of all her students and has been able to connect with each one, but she also has shown me I can chase after anything I want, and with passion and dedication it can be achieved. As someone who is planning on being a teacher in the arts, I can only dream of being half as amazing of a mentor she has been to me.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. I hope to be remembered for my independence and be someone the future generations of my family can look up to and learn from.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. You will never regret trying, but you will always regret not trying, so learn to be OK with discomfort and fear and take the opportunities presented to you.
