LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Annual car show benefits veterans

The 40th annual spring car show held May 4 at East Allen Township’s Bicentennial Park West has been hailed a success. Coordinators Richard and Donna Tully, of Bethlehem and members of the Blue Mountain Classics automobile group, were delighted with the turnout despite the less-than-ideal weather.

The car show’s proceeds went to the Keystone Warriors, an Eastern Pennsylvania nonprofit organization that honors the daily sacrifices made by men and women in all branches of the U.S. military, but specifically those wounded on or after Sept. 11, 2001. More information about the Keystone Warriors can be found at keystonewarriors.org.

The car show, sponsored by the Blue Mountain Classics, is held annually the first Saturday of May and included a deejay, trophies, a bake sale, door prizes, a flea market, tricky tray, 50/50 raffle, food and more. All vehicles were welcome.

DJ Tea Bucket Tom, from Macungie, played popular 1960-’70s music throughout the show that helped set the mood of the nostalgic theme of a classic car show.

The bake sale was busy with fresh, strong coffee for sale. Funnel cakes and other food were available for attendees.

Attendees walked around the car display area looking at and enjoying the classic vehicles. The cars were a trip down memory lane for many of the attendees. Classics like the ’55 and ’57 Chevys and an iconic ’65 Ford Mustang are typically shown at classic car shows because of their decadeslong popularity that seems to grow.

The Tullys were happy to report there were 125 cars in the show. They noted their team is grateful to help veterans with the donation of the show’s profit to Keystone Warriors.

Awards were granted to 15 entrees. The Tullys said the awards are participant awards, meaning the 125 participants were asked to evaluate all the car entrees and vote on their favorite 15.
