PRESS PHOTO BY JIM MARSH Western Salisbury Volunteer Fire Company firefighters practice procedures and protocols for cutting through a simulated residential roof to vent smoke from a burning structure to allow safer interior firefighting April 22. The practice, at the fire company's regular Monday drill session, was held on the Emmaus Fire Company's training ground along Kline's Lane in Emmaus. For safety purposes the rooftop is at ground level to allow easy access to replaceable panels breached with power tools. A device in the interior of the structure produces nontoxic smoke to help keep the simulation authentic.
