“Every set of prescriptions that gets taken off the street is the potential for lives saved,” Lehigh County Commissioner Geoff Brace explained to the board during its April 24 meeting.

Earlier in the day, Brace had attended a roundtable discussion and news conference on National Prescription Drug Take Back Day with County Executive Phillips Armstrong, Secretary of Drug and Alcohol Programs Dr. Latika Davis-Jones, Pa. State Police Commissioner Col. Christopher Paris, Brig. Gen. Terrance Koudelka of the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, First Deputy Chief of Criminal Investigations and Narcotics Barry Howe from the Office of the Attorney General and PACE Director Tom Snedden of the Department of Aging.

Held this year April 27, National Prescriptoin Drug Take Back Day gave residents a way to safely dispose of expired prescription drugs, including those for pets, at various locations throughout the Lehigh Valley.

Any resident who could not take part in Take Back Day, may contact their local police department, or visit dea.gov/takebackday to find out how to safely dispose of expired prescriptions.

Brace reiterated no questions are asked by law enforcement officials when medication is dropped off.

In other matters, commissioners made two reappointments to the Lehigh County Conservation District Board - Daniel E. Hunsicker as farmer director and William Erdman as public director.

Their terms end Dec. 31, 2027.

Commissioner Antonio Pineda was reappointed as commissioner director to the Lehigh Country Conservation District with his term ending Dec. 31, 2024.
