Special to The Press
Congratulations to the 22 scholar-athletes who officially signed to compete at the collegiate level May 3. Good luck to these Allentown Central Catholic High School athletes from our football, swimming, boys and girls lacrosse, baseball, track and field, girls soccer and cheerleading teams in their future endeavors.
Shoutout to the Class of 2024 Valedictorian Toby Broun and Salutatorian Sophia Steckel. Toby will attend Yale University in the fall and Sophie will attend Seton Hall University for a dual bachelor’s degree in biology/M.S. physician assistant. Congratulations on all your hard work and dedication to excellence.
Make sure to check the ACCHS social media pages for updates about spring sports playoff games. Several Vikings also stood out during their recent last regular season games.
Michael Restino recently scored his 100th goal in a 17-3 victory over Bethlehem Catholic. Duke Ebert placed first in the 1600 meter at 4:31.37, Clark Gulycz placed first with a 57-foot-5-inch shot put throw, Will Haring placed second in the 3200 meter at 10:10.56 and Emerson Springs placed second with a 35-foot-6-inch triple jump in the Zephyr Track and Field Invitational.
In the team’s meet against Bethlehem Catholic and Dieruff, Emerson Springs broke the school long jump record with a jump of 17 feet, 6 inches. Girls lacrosse player Katie Seiler accomplished 100 draw controls in this season alone. Softball players Gianna Menecola and Montana Nagle also earned nominations for SB Sports Pennsylvania Athlete of the Week.
The ACCHS cheer team will hold tryouts 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 18 in Rockne Hall and 3-6 p.m. May 20 in Masson Auditorium. Incoming freshmen may arrive 4:30 p.m. May 20 to allow travel time. On May 19, participants will review material independently. All attendees should wear athletic clothing and sneakers with their hair up and no jewelry. All cheerleaders must attend both days of tryouts. Email the coach with any questions at abaatz@acchs.info.
The ACCHS dance team will conduct tryouts 3:30-5:30 p.m. May 15 and 16 in Masson Auditorium. Dancers must participate both days, but email team directors with any schedule conflicts. Email danceteam.acchs@gmail.com to register.
The ACCHS band will hold a car wash and dine and donate May 18. Band members will wash your car for a small fee between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the PJ Whelihan’s Pub and Restaurant, 4595 Broadway, Allentown. The dine and donate will run all day, so just mention the ACCHS band fundraiser when you place your order. Thank you for supporting our talented band.
This year we are making a joyful noise again. The Diocese of Allentown is sponsoring an online lip dubbing competition for all diocesan schools to participate in. Each school made a video honoring the spirit and joy of Catholic education. Go to www.weloveourcatholicschools.com by May 31 to cast your vote. All funds from voting will go toward ACCHS.
Come celebrate past Vikings at the Rockne Hall Wall of Fame Ceremony May 17 in Masson Auditorium. Attendees can enjoy a cocktail hour 4:30-6 p.m., with the induction to follow.
Feel free to dress casual for this evening. We will induct Matthew Kalady Class of 1988, Dennis Ramella, Charlie Post and David Rosenberger Class of 2012. Tickets will be available at the door, which entitles guests to an open bar and appetizers. All former ACCHS Wall of Fame members may attend for free. All other guests should buy their tickets at the Fourth Street entrance of Rockne Hall and any member of the public may attend.
The ACCHS girls basketball team will host a clinic 3-6 p.m. May 19 at the St. Thomas More School Gymnasium.
