At the May 1 Hanover Township, Lehigh County, Council meeting, council Chairman Bruce Paulus asked that bids for two projects be opened for consideration.
Bid 2024-01 was for the Marcon Boulevard sanitary sewer project. Bid 2024-03 was to approve design consultation for the D&L Trail.
An electronic issue precluded the bids from being viewed on the large electronic screen that was not resolved. Therefore, the bid openings were delayed. Council Vice Chairman Robert Heimbecker, in light of the delay, asked Paulus to engage the balance of the agenda until the computer glitch was addressed.
Paulus moved ahead with the agenda. The minutes of the April 17 council meeting were then approved.
In the township engineer’s report, it was noted a microsurfacing project is planned to begin in mid-May in the township. It was noted residents will be notified of the paving schedule.
The engineer reported a township homeowner experienced a blocked sewer lateral that was determined to be in the township right of way, so the township was responsible for the repair.
A sewer lateral is the pipe that carries a home’s wastewater from toilets, sinks, showers, laundry, floor drains and more to the public sanitary sewer main. Typically, the sewer main is in the street in front of the home, beyond the homeowner’s property.
In other township matters, the search continues for an additional code enforcement officer. Contact the township office for more information and to apply.
The township also seeks to fill a vacancy on the planning commission and a vacancy as an alternate on the township’s building board of appeals.
The township and Lehigh Valley International Airport will present Movies in the Park starting dusk May 31 at Canal Park, 1960 Dauphin St., Allentown. The movie, “Migration,” is offered free of charge. Bring your own chair and/or blanket.
The next Hanover Township, Lehigh County, Council meeting is set for 7 p.m. May 15 at the township municipal building, 2202 Grove Road.
