Pickleball courts approved for Lower Macungie Township building

During the Lower Macungie Township’s regularly scheduled board of commissioners meeting April 18, the commissioners approved the conversion of the tennis courts at the Lower Macungie Township municipal complex for eight tournament sized pickleball courts. A proposal was received from Miller Sports Construction to reconstruct and retrofit the courts for a price of $135,450.

The bill list, which is always presented during the meeting, was approved. Details can be found on the Lower Macungie website at lowermac.com.

A resident spoke about an area which was presented at an earlier commissioners meeting. An answer was received regarding flooding around Krick Lane which intersects with Macungie Road and follows the Little Lehigh Creek. A culvert is in the area and considered by residents to be undersized.

The resident sent a letter to the commissioners and was pleased to receive a prompt response. However, he is not happy with the response as it appears the township does not agree the culvert should be improved. The resident, along with neighbors, feels the culvert is not big enough for the area.

Due to this undersized culvert, there is flooding on residents’ properties after heavy rains. The township is investigating further.

A resident sent a letter about the proposed development at 6300 Lower Macungie Road. This letter was submitted to the County Conservation District stating concerns for stormwater and traffic in this area. This letter is requesting the attendance of Conservation District representatives May 2. This project is proposed for 180 apartment units.

An ongoing reminder was given again regarding the new refuse contract where there will be changes as well as a significant price increase.

There was an executive session with the subject being land acquisition.

There have been several meetings where this project was to be discussed but rescheduled. The meeting is now scheduled 6 p.m. May 2 which is actually the regularly scheduled commissioners meeting.
