Kindergarten readiness camp set to begin in June

Kindergarten Readiness Title I Camp is being offered in Northampton Area School District.

NASD Board of Education voted 8-0 at the April 8 meeting to approve the program, grant funded through Title I at no cost to the district.

The camp is provided to incoming kindergarten students June 17-20 and June 24-27.

District personnel for the camp include Nicole Cramer, Rachel Olm, Jennifer Haley, Jillian Giandomenico, Stephanie Chlebove-Hartrick, Nicole Rothrock, Samantha Leland, Kimberly Haupt, Gina Vanluvanee and Adriana Huaman.

In other business at the April 8 board meeting, school directors voted 8-0 to approve the following.

• 2024-25 Bethlehem Area Vocational-Technical School budget of $14,597,899 with district portion of $3,140,829 to fund the BAVTS budget; 2024-25 Northampton Community College budget of $74,842,799 with district portion of $978,167 to fund the NCC budget; 2024-25 Colonial Intermediate Unit 20 general operating budget of $4,258,620 with district portion of $45,499 to fund the CIU-20 budget

• Jamison Barnhart, chemistry teacher, Northampton Area High School, as of Aug. 19, at $98,087, with benefits; Angela Borealo, NAHS special education teacher, effective Aug. 19, at $92,131, with benefits; Courtney Muick, NAHS long-term substitute special education teacher, effective Nov. 2, 2023-May 3, at $58,855, prorated; Cheyenne Rossanese, short-term substitute kindergarten teacher, George Wolf Elementary School, from March 25 to June 4, at per diem of $187.84; Lindsey Strunk, hall monitor, NAHS, effective Aug. 26, at $19.63 per hour, with benefits; Amanda Sodl, payroll specialist, as of May 6, at $27.15 per hour, with benefits; and Casandra Bixler, 10-month secretary, retroactively effective March 6, at $25.54 per hour, with benefits

• Barnhart and Borealo, resignation as NAHS assistant principals, effective July 31; Susan Whiteman, instructional assistant, Moore Elementary School, resignation, effective last day of the 2023-24 school year; Wilburt Bullsnake, custodian, Lehigh Elementary School, resignation for retirement, effective July 8; Lloyd Graff, security guard, Northampton Area Middle School, resignation, effective June 5; and Cory Buskirk, crossing guard, NASD, resignation, effective Feb. 28

• Spring II session of the 2023-24 school year for community education classes and roster of instructors with stipends

• Tara Mrazik, Neali Feimster, Ryan Brobst and 16 DECA students to attend the DECA International Conference, April 26-May 2 in Anaheim, Calif., at $4,104.65, included in the board-approved 2023-24 budget

• Two-year extension agreement with Chrin Hauling Inc., for trash removal/recycling, beginning July 1, at $6,435 per month with 4% increase each year

• Two-year extension with Provident Energy Consulting LLC to purchase electricity, through the fiscal year 2027-28, with consulting rate to remain at $0.001 per kwh

• Five-year agreement - June-May 2029 - for Microsoft Enrollment for Education Solutions software licensing consortium at annual cost of $42,554

• Authorize administration to complete and submit fiscal year 2023 state and local cybersecurity grant program local government entities consent agreement to authorize participation

• Community partnership agreement and agreement for distribution of U.S. Department of Agriculture food through the emergency food assistance program between Second Harvest Food Bank of the Lehigh Valley and Northeast Pennsylvania and NASD for the remainder of the 2023-24 year to provide nonperishable food items for the Backpack Buddies pilot program, at no cost to the district
