East Allen honors student athlete
At the April 11 East Allen Township Board of Supervisors meeting, the board honored a Northampton Area High School athlete. Jackson Vajda is an All-American soccer player and an East Allen Township resident.
Vajda’s sports achievements include All-American, All State, USA Today Student Athlete Leader, Morning Call and Lehigh Valley Live Player of the Year and an all-time leading scoring record of 116 goals. He plans to attend Lafayette University this fall to advance his education and improve his athletic talents.
Vajda was given a proclamation from East Allen Township Board of Supervisors recognizing his hard work and dedication. Board Chairman Roger Unangst commented the high school senior’s success is no doubt the result of his deep work ethic.
Vajda thanked the board for the accolade, saying that growing up in East Allen Township with the sports and summer programs he attended “are a part of my success.”
In other business, the board approved the holding tank fee agreement for 6701 Weaversville Road. Township Manager Brent Green noted the cost will be around $5,000.
Resolution 2024-12 was approved for the conditional final plan for the Pin Oak minor subdivision. The minor subdivision creates three lots for three single homes to be developed on the property.
The board approved an amendment to ordinance 2024-01 that addresses a zoning text amendment related to intensive agricultural uses. Intensive agricultural uses could be mushroom farms, greenhouses and controlled environment farms. Controlled environment operations, it was said, could include hemp, marijuana and other farming that requires a controlled environment.
The board agreed to a six-month extension for the developer’s indemnification for the Northampton Area School District Route 329 school project.
Resolution 2024-13 was approved that grants a signal easement along New Seemsville Road. The required flashing warning device at the school did not have enough space along the road; hence, the sign would need to be placed on the school property.
A request for a three-month extension for the Farmhouse Village major subdivision and land development plan was approved by the board. The extension will end July 31.
Security improvement contracts at Bicentennial Park were approved for execution. A proposal for miscellaneous electrical improvements are not to exceed $3,500. Wireless internet upgrades are limited to $4,020, and security improvements are not to exceed $20,000. Green noted the improvements are overdue, with some features of the park created in 2004.
The purchase of $18,000 for type C stormwater inlets and other hardware was approved by the board.
In the fire department report, it was said the department’s retention and recruiting plan is moving forward. It was mentioned many fire departments are developing their own plans, which is creating a competitive environment among fire departments, resulting in firefighters jumping to departments that offer more lucrative stipends.
