Maria Heidenwolf
Maria Heidenwolf quietly died April 15, 2024, in the comfort of her home where she resided for 65 years.
Born Sept. 4, 1929, in Raabfidisch, Hungary, she was the daughter of Maria (Mild) and Robert Deutsch.
She grew up in what was considered a small German village very near the Hungarian-Austrian border.
In 1950, she crossed the Atlantic Ocean with her oldest sister Gisi and settled in Allentown.
She worked in a silk factory and used her earnings to help bring the rest of the Deutsch family to America.
She attended Americanization classes and graduated with honors.
In 1954, she married Joseph Heidenwolf and they were married 62 years.
She loved having family picnics and working in her garden.
As the mother of five children, she was very busy tending to them.
Once they were older, she enjoyed working as a travel agent, traveling to many places, though her favorite vacation was spending time with her family in Stone Harbor, N.J.
She loved adventure and never met a stranger.
She had a very compassionate heart and loved all God’s creatures, especially animals.
She also loved to dance and spent many Saturday and Sunday evenings at the German American clubs in Allentown showing off her dance skills with her husband.
She also loved going to the casinos and enjoyed playing a good game of Scat.
Her survivors include son Joseph and wife, Mary E., of Allentown; daughters Sylvia Seltzer and husband, Glen, of Allentown, Cynthia Wise of Coplay, and Mary Niles and husband, Ray, of Jacksonville, Fla; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; and her brother Robert Deutsch and his wife, Terry.
She was predeceased by her husband, her son John, sisters Gisi and Berta, brother Emil, and great-grandson Kyle.
Her viewing is 9 a.m. for one hour at St, Elizabeth Catholic Church, Whitehall, followed by Mass at 10 a.m. on April 26.
Burial at Laurel Cemetery, Fullerton.
