Lindberg Avenue fire leaves home uninhabitable

Multiple area mutual aid fire companies responded April 15 to assist Western Salisbury Volunteer Fire Company firefighters at a residential structure fire in the 3100 block of Lindberg Avenue.

The fire was dispatched 11:34 p.m. Monday, shortly after WSVFC firefighters had completed their regular Monday evening training session.

Chief Joshua Wells was the first fire officer at the scene. He reported a “working fire” as emergency units were responding from Eastern Salisbury, Lower Macungie, Emmaus, Cetronia, Greenawalds and Woodlawn fire companies.

The fire was reported to have started on the back porch of the dwelling. The noise of falling fire debris awakened the four occupants of the single family dwelling who evacuated the home safely.

The fire worked up through a wall of the structure into the second level of the home and then through the roof. Heavy smoke was pushing from the roof area as firefighters worked to cut ventilation holes to help clear smoke for interior firefighters working inside on fire suppression.

Wells said all the responding firefighters worked well together to extinguish the fire. The home was heavily damaged and was left with fire, smoke and water damage. Red Cross officials were on hand to assist the occupants with shelter.

Medical personnel from Cetronia Ambulance Corps assisted at the scene and Eastern Salisbury Fire Department fire police controlled access to the area. A large Lehigh County support unit from Woodlawn Fire Company responded to fill air tanks depleted by interior firefighters working inside the structure.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Salisbury Township Police Department’s office of the fire marshal.
