Leonzi’s six goals lead PHS to win over NWL
The Parkland High School girls lacrosse team is at the midway point of the 2024 regular season and it’s been playing about .500 lacrosse overall.
Parkland had an up-and-down week last week as it defeated Northwestern Lehigh 15-10 in nonconference action last Wednesday. The next night, however, the Trojans met the top team in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference in Pleasant Valley and the Bears showed their might by remaining undefeated in a 21-4 win at Pleasant Valley.
On Monday night, Parkland suffered a one-goal setback, falling just short against Freedom, 11-10.
In the win against Northwestern, the Trojans doubled up the Tigers in the first half, leading 10-5 at halftime. The two teams were evenly played in the second half as both scored five goals each, but Parkland was able to hold on.
Gigi Leonzi led the attack with a game-high six goals. Anna Sensinger finished with three goals. Both Addison Winfield and Lila Temchatin recorded two goals with the latter adding an assist. Each of Ava Toman and Abby Marquardt scored once. Milla Hahn contributed three assists and Lily McAfee added one. Hailey Smith finished with nine saves.
The first quarter of the game with PV was close as Parkland trailed just 4-3. But in the second quarter, the Bears outscored the Trojans 10-1 to take a 14-4 lead at halftime and never look back.
Leonzi had three goals against Pleasant Valley. Hahn added two goals and Winfield rounded out the scoring with a goal. Smith made three saves in goal.
Against the Patriots, Leonzi tallied four goals and two assists. Temchatin finished with two goals. Toman, Hahn, Sensinger and Winfield all found the back of the net once. Smith finished with seven saves and Katie Generose made two saves.
Parkland has a rematch with the Tigers Thursday and travels to Council Rock South Friday before welcoming Southern Lehigh next Tuesday night.
