Emmaus softball beats Parkland

The Emmaus High School softball team had an up-and-down start to the 2024 regular season, winning its first two games before losing the next. But since that point, the Green Hornets have been on a roll, winning their next six games.

They continued on that winning trend with an important Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over rival Parkland last Wednesday afternoon on Parkland’s home field. The 9-2 comeback victory extended the win streak to seven games and brought their record to 8-2 overall and 5-2 in the conference. It also gave the Trojans their first league loss of the season.

Emmaus trailed 2-0 heading into the fourth inning after the Trojans scored a run in both the first and third innings. It took just two innings, but they were big innings, as the Hornets brought three runs home in the top of the fourth and sixth innings.

Taylor Hauver came up with the clutch hit for her team, which proved to be the game-winning hit, a three-run triple that scored all three runs in the fourth that took a 3-2 lead.

Each batter in the lineup recorded at least one hit, led by two each from Molly Yard, Emma Kozy and Taylor Bruckler. Autumn Held started inside the circle and earned the victory, throwing all seven innings and allowing just four hits.

Emmaus beat Stroudsburg last Monday, 11-1 .

Leading 2-0 after four innings, the Hornets scored two runs in the fifth, five more in the sixth and two in the seventh before the host Mountaineers got on the board in the bottom half of the last inning.

Kozy went 2 for 5 with 3 RBI and a run scored against Stroudsburg as Emmaus outhit their opponent 11-3. Sadie Haefeli was 2 for 4 with 3 runs and 2 RBI.

Held got the win, allowing three hits and no earned runs over seven innings while striking out nine Mounties.

Emmaus has three conference games upcoming in the schedule, all at home. The Hornets host Whitehall on Thursday before welcoming East Stroudsburg South on Saturday afternoon. Emmaus then takes on Northampton on Monday afternoon.
