EHS names student of the week
Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?
A. I am currently enrolled in 12th grade at Emmaus High School.
Q. Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.
A. My mother’s name is Dominga Amigon and my father’s is Sandro Gonzalez. I have one older brother named Israel Gonzalez.
Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?
A. My favorite subject would be government/history. When I was 9 years old, I started learning about government and politics because I was fascinated by it and ever since then it has been my biggest passion. I love learning the legal terms behind it and the laws it comes with.
Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?
A. I was voted best witness for a mock trial competition during my sophomore year. I was voted best advocate at Stanford University where I attended an intensive law and trial program there and I also won best advocate for my most recent district mock trial competition. I have also been on the honor roll and principal’s honor roll all four years at EHS.
Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities? How has being involved in these organizations impacted your high school experience?
A. I am the president of the Mock Trial team, Debate team and Young Democrats at EHS. I am also a member of Interact Club, Activism Club, National Honor Society, Hornet Ambassadors and Young Student Mentors. By joining these clubs, I was able to gain friendships and connections that have helped me over the years at the high school.
Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?
A. My biggest challenge is never giving myself enough credit for my accomplishments because I am always ready to achieve my next goal. I think that is what a lot of other people can relate to especially when high school is very competitive. You should always give yourself credit even if it’s for the smallest things.
Q. What is your next goal after high school?
A. I plan to attend college with a major in political science with a prelaw track and then after I plan to attend law school to obtain my Juris Doctor degree. I plan to become a criminal defense or a corporate lawyer after law school.
Q. Whom do you hope to emulate? Why?
A. I hope to emulate Ruth Bader Ginsburg because she has been my idol since I was 10 years old. I want to help people like her by advocating for them and having the power to represent those people in court. Before her passing, she had done so much for America as a whole and I want to help continue that fight.
Q. For what would you like to be remembered?
A. I would like to be remembered for my determination. I did a lot in high school because I was determined to achieve my goal of becoming a lawyer to help people and I hope to be remembered for that.
Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?
A. My advice would be to live in the present and enjoy the moment. The last four years went by in the blink of an eye and I believe it was because I was focusing on what was to come rather than what was happening in the moment which hindered the experience. You only get one high school experience so make it worth it.
