The Emmaus baseball team improved to 5-1 in East Penn Conference play with a 12-1 win over Bethlehem Catholic Tuesday.
Cole Moreau got the win, pitching 5.2 innings while allowing just two hits and no earned runs. The junior struck out eight Golden Hawk batters while walking just two. Josiah Williams pitched a hitless inning and a third while striking out three batters.
Emmaus outhit the Hawks 17-2 with Noah Hogan (3 for 5, 3 RBI, 2 runs) and Emmit Budick (3 for 5, 2 runs, RBI) accounting for six hits. Chad Kauffman, Williams (2 runs, 3 RBI), Colin Wilson (2 runs, 2 RBI) and Bryan Kain had two hits each in the game.
The Hornets (5-5 overall) suffered their fourth nonleague loss of the season Saturday, falling to Hazleton 9-5.
With the game tied 4-4 after five innings, the Cougars scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth then held on for the win.
Cohen Schadler went 3 for 3 and scored three times for Emmaus. Hogan was 2 for 3 and knocked in two runs.
The Hornets have some meaningful games this week as they faced Parkland (6-1 overall; 5-1 EPC) Tuesday at Coca-Cola Park before hosting Liberty (5-3; 5-1) the next day and Whitehall (4-4; 3-4) on Thursday.
