Baseball and softball fall to NL
For the Catasauqua baseball team, it has been a week of wasted opportunities.
Monday afternoon, the Rough Riders were in a 5-5 battle in the top of the third at Northwestern before the Tigers roared back for eight runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 13-5 advantage.
Unfortunately for the Roughies, they couldn’t muster any more runs, and Northwestern sealed the game with a pair of runs late for a 15-5 victory.
Matt Fotta had two hits and an RBI, and David Carl added a pair of hits and RBIs. Reece Lopez started the game for the Roughies, and he exited after two innings allowing eight runs. The next day, the Roughies traveled to Northern Lehigh, and they encountered a similar situation.
Catty took a 1-0 lead in the top of first, but NL erupted for six runs in the home first. The Roughies then found themselves in a 7-1 hole after two innings.
But the Roughies battled back to tie the game at 7-7 in the top of the sixth with doubles by Asael Gonzalez and John Pushkar and a single by Hunter Reitz.
However, Northern Lehigh responded with a three runs in their half of the inning to take control at 10-7. The Roughies added a run in the seventh to close out the scoring.
