Virginia “Grum” Sakers, 101 years old, of Northampton, died March 4, 2024. She was the wife of the late Robert “Bop” H. Sakers for 50 years.
Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Hugh and Marie (Will) Brude.
She worked as a service clerk at Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company until retiring.
An avid dancer, she was declared Jitterbug Queen in Avalon, N.J., for two years during World War II.
She was treated to a surprise 100th birthday party at Renaissance Home, Northampton, last year, where Northampton Borough Mayor Anthony Pristash declared Feb. 16 as Virginia Sakers Day.
She is survived by two daughters, Dale S. Erdosy and Linda J. Camp; three grandchildren, Michael Erdosy, Heather Erdosy and Franklin Camp and his wife Carrie; a great-granddaughter, Corson Camp; and other family, Hugh and Annetta Schultz, Carl “Butch” Jackson and Barry Camp.
Services are private at the convenience of the family.
