“Anastasia: The Musical,” brings Russian intrigue to the stage, 7 p.m. April 25, 26, 27; 1 p.m. April 27, auditorium, Salem Christian School, 8031 Salem Bible Church Road, Macungie.
Director Gretchen Geyer is assisted by Music Director Olya Howard, Alumni Student Director Christian Howard and Choreographer and Alumni Student Director Cadence Geyer.
Anya, an amnesiac young woman, hopes to find some trace of her past. In her journey, she encounters a pair of con men, the paternal grandmother of Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna of Russia and a ruthless Bolshevik general.
With music by Stephen Flaherty, lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and book by Terrence McNally, the stage show is based on the 20th Century Fox animation 1997 film of the same title and screenplay by Susan Gauthier, Bruce Graham, Bob Tzudiker, Noni White and Eric Tuchman. The animation film is based on the 1956 movie by Arthur Laurents and the 1952 play by Marcelle Maurette of the same title.
The 2017 Broadway production was nominated for two Tony Awards.
Songs include “Once Upon a December,” “Learn to Do It,” “The Neva Flows,” “Paris Holds the Key (To Your Heart)” and “Land of Yesterday.”
