As a senior, Northampton’ Sam Erschen knows his team always had a good sense of team chemistry. This year has followed the script.
The Konkrete Kids raised their record to 6-3 after a 19-1 demolishing of Dieruff Monday. Northampton began the season with a 0-2 start.
“As an overall team, we play really well together,” said Erschen. “We just bond well as a whole.”
Against Dieruff, Erschen had a pair of hits, three RBIs, and a stolen base. He is hitting .308 with eight hits, seven RBIs, eight runs, and five stolen bases. On the mound, Erschen has thrown nine innings with a 1-0 record with 11 strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA.
Erschen is optimistic that he can build on his season in the batter’s box, the field, and on the mound.
“For me, consistently getting on base and driving in runs with two outs complements my game,” he stressed. “In the field, I try to be on time and throw the ball accurately across the diamond.
“Pitching wise, I like to start with strikes and keep batters off balance with a slow curve.”
Head coach Mick Sugra was impressed with his team’s rout of Dieruff. They are hitting .285 as a team, and have a 3.08 team ERA.
“Well, it was nice to score some runs against Dieruff,“ he said. “We moved the lineup around a bit to see if we could get something sparked. Andrew Berger pitched a heckava game for us allowing only two hits through four innings.”
Sugra sees this week as a measuring stick for his team with games against Parkland Wednesday, Allen Thursday, and Freedom Saturday.
“We’ll see where we stand real soon,” stated Sugra.
