LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Helen R. Werley

Helen R. Werley, 84, of Weisenberg Township, died on April 11, 2024.

She and her husband, Robert M.L. Werley, were married 66 years in November 2023.

Born in Allentown, she was a daughter of the late Elwood D. and Norma M. (Snyder) Snyder.

She and her husband owned Werley’s Tree Farm, Kempton, since 1975.

She was a member of Ebenezer United Church of Christ, New Tripoli, and East Penn Chapter 336 O.E.S., Kutztown, where she served as Star Point Adah until her death, and was a member of the finance committee.

She loved hunting and fishing, and traveled the U.S. and Canada with her husband, and sometimes her children, Bobby and Cindy.

She went on many big game hunts, moose, caribou and mule deer to name a few, and hunting whitetail deer in Pennsylvania.

Fishing in Canada and Alaska were her favorite places to fish, and she usually caught the biggest fish.

In addition to hunting and fishing, she loved arrowhead hunting and growing vegetables.

As she got older, the only vegetable she grew was rhubarb, which leads to her next passion, baking.

Some of her favorites were strawberry rhubarb, lemon sponge and pumpkin pies; cakes, chocolate with peanut butter icing, banana oatmeal; and many kinds of cookies.

Whether it was baking or cooking she always made enough to give to family and friends.

Every Wednesday she played bingo at the Fogelsville Fire Company, where she made many friends.

Playing cards, pinochle and Escalaro were just a couple of the games she played with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her sister, Virginia.

Another of her passions was crocheting, anything from doll clothing, hats, and blankets to coasters.

But her favorite item to make were pineapple doilies, of which she made hundreds of over the years.

She gave them to family and friends.

Her absolute favorite pastime was to take care of and spend time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Over the years, she spent time playing with and teaching them how to bake, cook, sew and crochet, and to be a good person and to love unconditionally.

She was the sweetest, warmhearted and caring person who touched everyone she met throughout her life, and always had a smile on her face.

She was loved by so many people over the years and she will never be forgotten.

She enjoyed anything outdoors, from hunting and fishing to working on the tree farm.

Throughout her life, she touched so many people’s lives and she was loved by many.

With her infectious smile she lit up a room.

Her greatest treasure was the love for her family.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by children Cynthia A. Werley (John Decker) of Kutztown, and Robert C. Werley (Patricia) of New Tripoli; siblings Howard Snyder of Charleston, S.C., and Virginia George of Trexlertown; grandchildren Stephanie Sparrow (Aaron), Courtney Wuchter (Brandon), and Christopher Werley; great-grandchildren Hallie, Brandon, Lexi, Abby, Brianna, Jaliyah, Elijah and Marlowe.

She was predeceased by brothers Elwood and Gerald Snyder; and grandchildren Robert and Nicole Werley.
