Baseball, softball pick up victories

Whitehall’s baseball and softball teams are both looking to gain some momentum toward the second half of the season.

The Zephyrs’ baseball team evened its mark at 4-4 with a recent 6-1 thumping of Northampton. Seth Hoderewski knocked in three runs in the victory, and the sophomore leads the team in batting average (.500), hits (14), runs batted in (8), stolen bases (4), on-base percentage (.517), and runs scored (6).

Senior Aurelius Haddad picked up his first win of the season (1-1) with a five-inning, two-hit outing in which he recorded four strikeouts. Haddad lowered his ERA to 2.76. Junior Matt Hansen recorded four strikeouts over the final two innings to secure the victory. Junior Connor Strauss, who is hitting.330, had a pair of hits against Northampton.

Sophomore Tyler Sanders is hitting .348, and junior Bradley Kibler is at .333.

The Zephyrs were at Nazareth Tuesday, but suffered a 1-0 loss, and are at Emmaus Thursday.

Whitehall’s softball team had a 6-4 record after 9-3 victory over Stroudsburg Monday. In that game, senior Aubrey Steiner went 4-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs. Bella Muth added two hits and RBIs apiece, and Paige Tacker had two hits. Steiner is hitting .344.

Morgan Laub went the distance on the mound. The Zephyrs will be at Nazareth Tuesday and be at Emmaus Thursday.

Despite some injuries in his lineup, head coach Jeff Vivian believes his club is starting to jell.

“We are still finding our way with some of the injuries,” stressed Vivian. “But overall, it was great effort. We strung some good at-bats, swung the bat really well.

“Aubrey Steiner having four hits was a big day. Also got big hits from Nya Brown, Bella Muth, and Paige Tacker. On the mound, Morgan Laub was really good. She didn’t have much stress with 79 pitches over seven innings, but she moved her pitches around the zone. and we played good defense behind her. It was a complete effort.”

The girls fell to Nazareth 12-0 on Tuesday.
