Three new police officers welcomed in Macungie

At the April 15 Macungie Borough Council meeting, Mayor Ron Conrad provided the oath of office to three new officers for the Macungie Police Department. Sabdiel Diaz, Matthew Miklich and Cole Surridge are Macungie’s newest police officers.

County Executive Phillips Armstrong attended the meeting expressing his desire to help municipalities where needed.

Armstrong spoke about Lehigh County purchasing upgraded radio units for county police. “This is, most of the time, up to the municipality but Lehigh County chose to do it this way.”

Calling 911 will now have the capability to communicate through FaceTime.

Resolution 2024-03 was approved for the appointment of Terry Kohler as a full member of the zoning hearing board with a term to expire March 31, 2027.

Resolution 2024-02 was approved which appointed Greg Reinbold to the zoning hearing board with a term to expire March 31, 2026.

Resolution 2024-01 was approved appointing Alan Printz as a full member of the zoning hearing board. His term will expire March 31, 2025.

Diane Angermeier spoke to council and others about Macungie Park. It’s that time when events begin at the park and volunteers are needed for various events such as cruise nights, flea markets, truck shows, dog shows, Das Awkscht Fescht and Wheels of Time. Volunteers are needed to work the gates and refreshment stand. Angermeier can be reached through email at drang@ptd.net or phone at 610-967-1531. Come out and support Macungie Park which is self-supporting and dependent on donations.

A letter was sent to the Macungie Firemen’s Relief Association regarding funds received from the state. The letter is requesting a list of currently approved officers. This information was difficult to obtain. As per state guidelines, this information is necessary as well as certain other items such as identification numbers.

A letter is also circulating among borough residents regarding the situation. The letter reassures residents there is fire protection through a short-term agreement with Lower Macungie Fire Department but the goal is to reorganize the Macungie Fire Department.

The Macungie Fire Department has elected a slate of officers and is looking for volunteers for various committees.

There was an executive session held for legal, personnel and real estate issues.
