EHS names student of the week
Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?
A. I am in 12th grade at Emmaus High School.
Q. Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.
A. Parents Jason and Melody, sister Rylie and dog Scout.
Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?
A. I have taken all three physics classes the high school has to offer and have greatly enjoyed all three. I love solving math problems that apply to the real world and learning the rules of the universe.
Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?
A. National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, Eastern Pennsylvania Conference scholar nominee for cross-country, National Merit Scholar Commended Student and EPC Gold medalist in chess.
Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities? How has being involved in these organizations impacted your high school experience?
A. I lead the chess team as “Czar” and I lead the cross-country and track team as a senior leader. My role as “Czar” allows me to organize the rankings of team members and set up challenges/tournaments. I am part of the group that began the Emmaus chess team so I created different rule systems with how the team is set up and am responsible for managing placements. I continue to succeed in working with the team and Dr. Waddell to maintain a fair system, as well as helping Dr. Waddell with some of the technical paperwork that comes with being a school team.
As a senior leader in cross-country and track and field, I organize team meetings and stretches and lead activities outside of practice. The coaches rely on me to initiate conversations between seniors and among the team, as well as to inspire the team by leading huddles. In both cases, my extracurricular activities have allotted me extra responsibility, but also many extra valuable friendships.
Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?
A. My biggest challenge to date is ongoing and it is my goal to break 2 minutes officially in the 800-meter race. I think I broke it in a relay last year but if I did it was only by a fraction of a second. I want to smash the time and be a sub two runner in the outdoor season.
Q. What is your next goal after high school?
A. I am still struggling to decide on a school, so my goal for high school is to settle on an affordable college without compromising on academics.
Q. Whom do you hope to emulate? Why?
A. I hope to emulate a graduate student of physics, Oscar Felegy. Oscar is the most humble, happy and determined guy I know and they are three traits everyone could use more of.
Q. For what would you like to be remembered?
A. I would like to be remembered as a stand up guy. Someone who stayed out of trouble and worked hard.
Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?
A. Stay in school, kids.
