The Bethlehem Area School District April 8 started negotiations with the Borough of Freemansburg regarding a strip of land under a power line at Cambria and Pembroke roads. The district has no use for the land and the borough wants to turn it into a much-needed parking lot. The borough would assume all costs and the district would have access when they need additional parking for school events.
Superintendent Dr. Jack Silva said the deal is a win-win. Board President Mike Faccinetto suggested adding a walkway from the proposed parking area to the school.
BASD is very proud to present its first electric bus, newest to its transportation fleet. It was to be unveiled April 12 for the public.
The Curriculum Committee presented the summer school tuition cost for 2024. It will be $100 per course. This is an in-person summer program. Parents should be aware that summer school is the very last effort to help a child pass a course.
The music department presented proposals for the 2025-26 school year trips. Both Florida and London are being considered. Both trips would focus on international band week education and competitions.
The Human Resource and Finance Committees were scheduled to meet April 15 and the regular board meeting is set for April 22.
