The Emmaus High School boys lacrosse team split a pair of games last week.
The Hornets remained unbeaten in the East Penn Conference by beating defending District 11 2A champions Central Catholic 14-11 last Tuesday, but then dropped a close, one-goal game to Wilson West Lawn, 9-8 in double overtime.
In the win over the Vikings, Emmaus took a 5-4 lead after the opening quarter but was then outscored 4-1 in the second quarter and trailed 8-6 at halftime. In the second half, the Hornets outscored Central 8-3 to comeback and claim the win.
Will Barber netted seven goals and had three assists. Liam Rooney scored a hat trick with three goals and had one assist. Kaleb Mains, Gabe Chies, Jewlien Torres and Jahkari Christian rounded out the scoring all with one goal. Mains also had an assist. Sam Rainford finished with 12 saves in net.
In the game with the Bulldogs, Emmaus trailed 7-5 heading into the final quarter and then outscored Wilson 3-1 in the final frame to force overtime.
After a scoreless first period of overtime, the Bulldogs found the back of the net for the golden goal, game-winner in the second overtime period. The Hornets trailed 3-1 after one and 5-4 at halftime.
Barber tallied a game-high six goals. Torres and Chies both had one goal with Torres adding an assist. Rooney and Brady McKechnie both contributed one assist in the game. Rainford made 18 saves in net.
Emmaus is 4-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference and hosts Freedom on Wednesday night and then have back-to-back nonconference games this weekend. The Hornets are at Northwestern Lehigh on Friday and then are at Central Bucks East on Saturday.
