Hat tricks highlight win over So. Lehigh

Northwestern Lehigh split a pair of games recently when it suffered an 11-1 loss to Emmaus and then returned to down Southern Lehigh 11-4. The pair of games leaves Northwestern with a 4-2 overall mark this season.

Against Emmaus (7-1), freshman Tyler Kaas had the lone goal for the Tigers and was assisted by Devon Hildebrand. Goalie Bailen Smargiassi made six saves in goal.

Things went much smoother when the Tigers hosted Southern Lehigh (3-3) on Tuesday as Blaine Snyder, Michael Lagowy, and Kaas all scored three goals in the game and Hildebrand and Stone Sosnovik both added a goal in the win for Northwestern Lehigh. Bailen Smargiassi, who is the team’s all-time leader in saves, made 10 stops, putting him at 467 career saves for Northwestern.

Snyder is 28 goals away from tying Austin Sosnovik’s career mark of 135 goals and is now just seven goals shy of Sosnovik’s career mark of 53 assists.

The Tigers are in the middle of a stretch that has them facing nine straight teams with at least a .500 record this season.

The remaining five games of that stretch feature Liberty (7-3) and then a replay of last year’s district final game against Allentown Central Catholic (4-2). The matchup with the Vikings was washed out by heavy rain last week and will be played Monday at Salisbury High School. After that comes games against Nazareth (6-2), Parkland (5-2), and Easton (4-3).
