Gerancher scores six goals in win over BC

The Parkland High School boys lacrosse team beat a pair of league rivals last week, but dropped a nonleague contest.

Last weekend, the Trojans had a large margin of victory in defeating Bethlehem Catholic in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference play, but followed that up the next day by falling at William Penn Charter. They continued the trend by winning their next game, a big matchup against Freedom on Monday night in Bethlehem.

In the win over the Golden Hawks, 12 different players found the back of the net in a 24-1 victory.

The leading goal scorer on the night was John Gerancher, who finished with six goals. Parker Kusko, Bailey Wetmore and Danny Tapia all recorded hat tricks with three goals, the latter also adding three assists.

Matt Kelley tallied one goal and six assists, Matt Scott recorded one goal and three assists and Blake Finnegan notched one goal and one assist. Tyler Smith, Ethan Leaks, Cash Winn, Brady McGuire, Van O’Mara and Jake Possacco scored one goal each. Max Esteban contributed an assist.

In the game against Penn Charter, Parkland trailed by just one goal (2-1) after the first quarter, but fell behind 8-3 at halftime and could not make a comeback, losing 17-11.

Kusko finished with a team-best seven goals. Tapia recorded two goals and three assists. Parker tallied one goal and three assists and Jake Beidleman found the back of the net once. Finnegan, Gerancher and Kelley all had one assist. Andrew Matulevicius finished with 10 saves in net for the Trojans.

Parkland had just a one-goal lead (1-0) after the opening quarter, but then outscored the Patriots 5-1 in the second to lead 6-1 at halftime and never looked back in an 11-3 win.

Kusko finished with a game-high five goals. Beidleman had a hat trick and Tapia recorded two goals and an assist. Parker tallied one goal and one assist and Gerancher contributed one assist. Matulevicius made 16 saves.

Parkland hosts Pleasant Valley Thursday in conference action and then welcomes Pennridge on Saturday afternoon in a nonconference game. The Trojans will then have a showdown in the EPC on the road against Central Catholic on Tuesday night at Salisbury High School.
