The Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners held its regularly scheduled meeting April 4. This meeting was to also include a conditional use hearing for the application by Jason Danweber for the Mill Creek Apartments project located at 6300 Lower Macungie Road. This is across the street from the Walmart shopping area and Lower Macungie Middle School. The applicant requested a continuance for this hearing. The request was approved and will be held May 2.
Commissioners approved Resolution 2024-22 regarding the fee schedule amendment. Resolution 2024-23 was approved for the South Whitehall Township Act 537 sewage facilities plan. This allows for acceptance of properties outside of municipalities to use the sewer system that ultimately ends up at Kline’s Island.
Resolution 2024-24 allows for contract renewal with CivicPlus for CivicEngineer which is for the website and CivicReady which provides notifications.
A resident complained about large vehicles parked within a development. The concern is for safety for traffic as well as pedestrians, particularly children. The state police were notified; their response is there is no signage. The resident requested assistance before this meeting and is requesting it again. The commissioners have submitted this request to the proper department.
Two bids have been received for the Gun Club Road bridge replacement project; however, they are higher than the budgeted amount. Therefore, the bids have been rejected.
LB Construction had the lowest bid for the walking path at Hillside School. There were nine bids for this. The LB Construction bid was $137,732 which was approved.
A-1 Traffic Control Products was chosen as the contractor for line painting. Their bid of $333,367 was the lowest bid received.
The contract for refuse collection is in the works. It has been mentioned often the cost will increase substantially and services may change.
