“The SpongeBob Musical” brings the wacky under-the-sea world of Bikini Bottom to the stage, 7 p.m. April 10, 11, 12, 13; 3 p.m. April 14, auditorium, Parkland High School, 2700 N. Cedar Crest Boulevard, South Whitehall Township.
SpongeBob and his pals are dealing with an erupting volcano while married villains Plankton and Karen plot to take advantage of the situation.
Director Lori Colacito is assisted by Vocal Director Alison Lagan, Choreographer Ashley Weller, Orchestra Director Allison Figuroa, Accompanist Sherry Deal, Technical Director Kevin Gallagher, Producer Andrea Ropash and Production Assistant Natalie Gabrie.
The design crew includes Costume Designer Michael McDonald, Set Designer Katrina Miller, Lighting Designer Haley Brown, Sound Designer JT Moyer and Technical Advisor Will Morris.
With music and lyrics by various musicians, book by Kyle Jarrow, the musical is based on the Nickelodeon animated series “SpongeBob SquarePants” by Stephen Hillenburg.
The original 2017 Broadway production was nominated for 12 Tony Awards, winning one Tony in 2018.
Musical numbers include “Bikini Bottom Day” by Jonathan Coulton, “Hero is My Middle Name” by Cyndi Lauper, “Chop to the Top” by Lady Antebellum and “(Just a) Simple Sponge” by Brendon Urie.
