Hurricanes will be a team to deal with

Liberty returns to the diamond this spring as defending EPC and District 11 6A champions, but can they continue to be the top-team in area with the loss of a talented senior class?

That remains to be seen, but if there’s anything we know about Andy Pitsilos and the baseball program he’s built into of the best in District 11, it’s that the Hurricanes will be a team to deal with when the postseason comes around.

Coming off a 20-5 season last year, Liberty returns Braylen Gonzalez (Sr. CF); Jacob Rivera (Sr. 1B); Noah Gyauch-Quirk (Sr. P); Juan Cruz (Sr. LF) Franklin Pichardo (Jr. C); Paul Erfle (Sr. 3B) Jack Evans (Sr. SS);, Kam Kensicki (Jr. C); Luke Piripavel (Sr. RF); Dayton Aguiar (Sr. 2B); Justin Goire (Sr. 3B); Mikey Mariano (Jr. P); Max Landis (Jr. CF); Dylan Metzger (Jr. 2B); Jaxon Horvath (Jr. SS), Adam Unangst (Jr. RF); Zander Frey (Sr. P); Justin Frey (Jr. LF), Nick Zumas (Sr. LF) and Jake Matthews (Jr. 1B).

“We must replace a talented senior class,” said Pitsilos, who enter his 21st season. “There will be questions that need to be answered. If we can play disciplined baseball at the plate, and on defense, I think we can make a run. We have some depth at pitching.”

The Hurricanes are off to a 2-0 start following a 4-3 win over Whitehall and an 11-1 shellacking over Bethlehem Catholic last week. They have Pleasant Valley, Dieruff and Wilson on deck this week.

“Our goals remain the same,” said Pitsilos. “Win the division, EPC and district titles, and compete in states.”
