Bethlehem Catholic presents ‘The Sound of Music’
The celebrated von Trapp family journeys across the stage in “The Sound of Music,” 7 p.m. on April 5, 6, 12, 13; and 3 p.m. April 7, at the Bethlehem Catholic High School Auditorium, 2133 Madison Ave., Bethlehem.
Director Diana Tice is aided by assistant director Barbara Ruhl, choreographer Brenda Santana, music director Joseph Fink and student assistant Layla Luquis.
With music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, the musical is based on the 1956 German movie “Die Trapp-Familie” and autobiography “The Story of the Trapp Family Singers” by Maria von Trapp.
“The Sound of Music” debuted on Broadway in 1959 with a Broadway revival in 1998.
The original Broadway production was nominated for nine Tony Awards, receiving five Tonys. The Academy Award-winning film version was released in 1965.
Songs include “Do-Re-Mi,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen,” “So Long, Farewell,” “Climb Ev’ry Mountain” and “Edelweiss.”
“The Sound of Music” leads feature Theresa Ruhl (Maria Rainer), Cooper Roche (Captain Georg von Trapp), Elizabeth Maigur (Liesl von Trapp), Brandon Santana (Rolf Gruber), Sophia Anontelli (Mother Abbess), Maja Romero (Elsa Schraeder) and Tyler Alonge (Max Detweiler). The other von Trapp children are played by Peter Tocci, Ruby Romero, Andrew Santana, Lily Flurer, Olivia Hann and Juliet Flurer.
Supporting characters in the Bethlehem Catholic production include Anna Nagle, Deidre Michels, Layla Luquis, Caius VanHaute, Elizabeth Schock, Ethan Bachstein, Canon Morrow, Madison Araniego and Rhyker Santiago. Madelyn Araniego, Madison Araniego, Ethan Bachstein, Andreia Dias, Siobhan Crews, Anna Maigur, Deidre Michels, Canon Morrow, Dominic Oviedo, Brandon Santana and Rhyker Santiago form the Ensemble.
