Tremba honored for efforts on and off the field
Trey Tremba had a senior year for the record books for the Parkland High School football team. The First Team All-Eastern Pennsylvania Conference running back continued to roll in the accolades and awards three months after his senior season ended with the Trojans.
Two Sundays ago, Tremba heard his name called for the prestigious Albert M. Beneck Large School Scholar Athlete of the Year Award at the 64th annual National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame banquet held at the Northampton Community Center.
The award was based on 40 percent apiece on academic and athletic achievement and 20 percent for extracurricular activities and leadership.
“I’m proud to be here first of all,” said Tremba. “And to win the award is just amazing. My coaches and my teammates were a huge support in getting me here, along with my parents. They all inspired me to be a great student-athlete all-around. I’m really excited to earn this award.”
A consensus First-team All-State selection, Tremba accumulated 1,844 rushing yards, 408 receiving yards, and a total of 30 touchdowns.
Off the football field, Tremba maintains a rigorous academic schedule while also participating in the National Honor Society, powerlifting, and was a state qualifier in 2023 for the Parkland track team. He is an honor roll student and member of the National Honor Society ranked in the top 24 percent of his class. He also volunteers with Special Olympics and Miracle League.
“Parkland has given so much to me as a student-athlete and I like to give back by helping bring home trophies and awards,” Tremba said. “I love playing football and giving back to the school and community.”
Tremba will continue his academic and athletic career at the United States Military Academy at West Point and he is looking forward to it. He leaves June 30 and will report for day one on July 1.
“I’m really excited to get there,” said Tremba. “I think it’s going to be a cool experience and I’m looking forward to it.”
The organization named Matthew Machalik out of Palmerton as the Small School Scholar Athlete of the Year winner and also tabbed Sean Kinney from Nazareth as the Lineman of the Year.
Machalik was an all-state quarterback in Class 3A and who had over 5,000 yards rushing and passing in his career, the first player in state history to reach both of those marks. He’s headed to Lehigh University.
Kinney, a First Team All-League selection on both sides of the ball, also earned all-state recognition. When he’s not playing football, Kinney stays busy winning state wrestling titles, as he earned his third one last weekend. He is committed to play at Lafayette College.
