Hoderewski big part of team’s success
Seth Hoderewski knows that he has a “motor.”
No, it’s that the physical one that we tend to imagine, but the term used to describe a player like Hoderewski, who is a relentless worker on the court. He has gained the reputation when he made a splash as a freshman last winter.
“He has a great work ethic,” said Zephyrs’ head coach Jeff Jones. “He is a guy who is all over the court all the time. Seth does all of the little things out there.
“We saw that he could help us last year, and he did. This season, he was an important part of our rotation.”
Since his early youth, sports have been a mainstay in Hoderewski’s life. He credited his older brother and Whitehall alum, Adin, for helping to shape and mold his sports career. His father, Seth, has played a pivotal role.
“Being around my older brother, who was in the school’s baseball and basketball programs, really gave me a love for both sports,” said Hoderewski, who also plays baseball. “But the person who has pushed me the most has been my father.
“He pushed me hard when I was little through sweat and tears. He gave me the opportunity to be in the position where I am today.”
Hoderewski also credited the support of shooting and AAU coach Scott Kolumber, whose son J.J. has been an integral part of Northampton’s success this season.
“He (Kolumber) gave me the opportunity to play with older kids and learn skills at a younger age,” added Hoderewski. “JJ and I have been close since preschool days playing basketball in his backyard.”
Hoderewski knew his role on the team, and he believed his squad could make a deep run this season, and they did, losing a heartbreaker in the state tournament.
“This year, my biggest improvement has been knowing my role and accepting it, using it as the best opportunity on the court,” stressed Hoderewski. “Knowing how much talent we have this year, including the seven seniors, my job is to come off the bench and give us a spark.
“I push myself and my teammates at practice and I will push us to be in a position to win a championship. Coach always tells me to have the motor that we need.”
