Wilford Francis “Fred” Radcliffe, 91, of Macungie, died peacefully March 17, 2024. Born in Pottstown, he was the husband of Rose Marie “Rose” Conrad. They were married for 63 years and celebrated their gold anniversary in 2002.
He attended Harrison Morton Junior High School and graduated from Allentown High School in 1951.
He joined the Navy and during the Korean War he proudly served on the USS Saipan (“The Can Do Ship”) between 1952 and 1956 and, during that time, had the distinction of circumnavigating the globe, crossing the equator twice. In addition, he was part of the Navy’s relief efforts in rescuing the people of Tampico, Mexico, which suffered Hurricane Janet in October of 1955.
He worked at Altemos Oil which later became Diamond Oil for 23 years, departing as vice president. He joined Boyle Construction Company, Allentown and retired in 1998 after 19 years of service.
He was an avid bowler at Fearless Fire Co. #14 and golfer. He played golf for many years at Wedgewood Golf Club and later at Shepherd Hills Golf Club.
He was a devoted family man who loved nothing more than a good laugh.
He is survived by his wife; brothers, Edmund Jr., Donald; children, Rossana (Roland) Howells and their daughter, Rebecca (Josh) Yaeger, Conrad (Amanda) and their children, Antoinette, Kailey and Callum; brother, Tom (Pat).
