Tennis seasons get under way in area
High school tennis season began last week for Bethlehem Catholic, Freedom, and Liberty, and the teams ended the week with a combined record of 8-1.
The Hurricanes defeated Emmaus, 6-1, in their season opener, followed by wins against East Stroudsburg South, 7-0, and Whitehall, 7-0.
In Liberty’s match against Emmaus, Luke Appleman was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Nick Stone, Roman Farhad won, 7-5, 6-2, against Chris Stone, and David Broczkowski defeated Ben Fletcher, 6-1, 7-5.
In doubles play, Leo Babbin and Elijah Quan beat Caleb Brown and Quinn Durkin, 6-2, 6-2, Finn Brown and Connor Ohl won 6-3, 6-0, over Sai Uppiretla and Ayden Kegley, and Ben Blum and EJ Powers were 6-1, 6-2 winners over Sarresh Senguttuvan and Quaid Peatiwal.
Liberty’s only loss came at one doubles where Emmaus’s Josh Haas and Caleb Brashear defeated Neil Rana and Caden Snyder, 8-4.
The Patriots defeated Allentown Central Catholic, 4-2, in their season opener, followed by wins against Pocono Mountain East, 6-0, and Nazareth, 4-2.
In Freedom’s match against Nazareth, Noah Rodburg was a 6-2, 7-6(4) winner over Gideon Knowles, Luke Braido fell to Logan Baltz, 6-4, 2-6, 3-6, and Eric Wu topped Ishaan Patel, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4.
In doubles matches, Matt Davis and Hardeep Sandhu won their match against Shivam Aurora and Evan Davis, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2, Joe Siessmayer and Angel Suarez defeated Patrick Bacola and Vereen Sheeka, 6-3, 4-6, 6-0, and Henri Houle and Bhavya Patel lost to Thomas Puzio and TJ Lalia, 6-2, 6-4.
The Golden Hawks defeated Pocono Mountain East, 5-1, in their season opener and then lost to Nazareth, 6-1, before defeating Pleasant Valley, 4-3.
In Becahi’s match against Pleasant Valley, John Vallance lost to John Hargrave, 2-6, 2-6, Xavier Shive-Sanchez was a 6-1, 6-4 winner over Noah Dolan, and Liam Maloney defeated Ben Keppel, 1-6, 6-4, 6-3.
In doubles play, Henry Russell and Derrick Hartman lost to Roman Stever and Chris Lanier, 1-6, 1-6, Kendryck Silva and Conor Morrow fell to Aaron Rehrig and Jens Hansen, 0-6, 2-6, but Tyler Lennert and Jorge Herrera were 6-2, 6-1 winners over Logan Cook and Damian McMurtry.
Becahi’s win at number one doubles gave the Hawks the team victory when Vallance and Shive/Sanchez defeated Hargrave and Dolan, 6-2, 6-0.
