Public Library of Catasauqua: Spring is here with fun events
“Spring is sprung, the grass is riz.
“I wonder where the birdies is.
“They say the birdies on the wing, but that’s absurd.
“I always thought the wing was on the bird.”

This was a favorite poem of Spike Milligan, co-creator, main writer and a principal cast member of the British radio comedy program The Goon Show, a favorite of King Charles, among many others.
Well, it certainly feels like spring is here!
At the library, we attended the literacy night event at Sheckler Elementary School, where we met many familiar faces and some new ones. Shout out to all who made the evening so enjoyable.
All age groups are welcome to use the MakerSpace at the library. Experiment with paint, paper, origami, crayons and many more craft supplies. Bring your own ideas or check out the ideas we have for you to try.
Later in the spring, we will be attending Healthy Kids Day at the YMCA in Catasauqua. Our intention is to support the theme by planting vegetables with visitors to our area at the Y. Did you see the magnificent vegetable garden at the YMCA last year? It was amazing!
Easter will soon be here, too. We will have crafts in our MakerSpace for Easter and craft kits to make as well. Visit with (or without) your children to have a crafty hour or two at the library.
Looking forward to the summer, we will run a weekly kids’ club for all ages. The theme this year is Smokey Bear. Can you believe he will be 80 years old Aug. 9? We will be learning about his story and his message about forest fires throughout the summer.
We have so many fun activities for you to do. Register as soon as you know your plans for the summer. The library has forms for you to fill out to ensure a place 4 p.m. each Thursday, starting June 20.
If you are unable to come to the library in the summer, remember that we have a children’s program 4 p.m. every Thursday throughout the year. You are welcome to attend when you are able. The theme varies, except during summer.
We provide a welcoming space for everyone, and all our activities are free to all. Every month, we add new and interesting books to our collection. Come in and browse the shelves or check out the new books online and place a hold on a book you would like to read.
