Leon “Gene” E. Krebs, 83, of Whitehall, died March 17, 2024, at home. He was the husband of Judy K. (Kauffman) Krebs for 58 years.
Born in Trevorton, he was the son of the late Leon E. and Hazel J. (Haupt) Krebs.
He was a 1958 graduate of Trevorton High School. He attended the Pennsylvania State Police Academy, graduating in the Class of 1962.
He served four years in the U.S. Navy after high school.
He was stationed at York and Harrisburg in the beginning of his career as a Pennsylvania State Police trooper. He became a ballistics and tool markings expert, working in the crime lab with the PSP Bethlehem barracks. After 32 years with the PSP, he continued his law enforcement career working for the FBI in Quantico, Va., Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C., and Montgomery County Detectives in Norristown. He taught ballistics and tool markings for the PSP. He retired in 2010 at age 70.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Susan E. Santiago of Northampton and Nicole M. McLoughlin of Whitehall; three grandchildren, Erin A. (Molnar) Scheid with Christopher of Walnutport, Michael W. McLoughlin of Whitehall and Rachael L. McLoughlin of Ashland; and four great-grandchildren, Peyton Rudakewiz, Ty Scheid, Maci Scheid and Kayden Sam.
There will be a calling period 9:30-11 a.m., followed by a funeral service 11 a.m., March 22 at the funeral home, 327 Chestnut St., Coplay. Contributions may be made to your local police department.
