The former chief of Klecknersville Rangers Volunteer Fire Department has been charged with stealing more than $47,000 from the department.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by the Moore Township Police Department in the case against Jon Mann:
On Oct. 23, the Moore Township Police Department was notified about an alleged theft that was occurring at the Klecknersville Rangers Fire Company, 2718 Mountain View Drive, Bath. Police said Mann, 46, of Danielsville, had been using fire department funds for personal use and was using a debit card that was linked to the debit account for the fire department for personal purchases and ATM cash withdrawals.
Mann admitted to purchasing a bulldozer July 29 for personal use.
Police were told Mann would make personal purchases at Miller Supply ACE Hardware, Route 329 in East Allen Township, and the fire company would send a check paying the amount.
Mann would also ask the treasurer for checks for reimbursement but wouldn’t provide receipts, according to the affidavit.
The new treasurer for the Klecknersville Rangers Fire Company provided receipts and a spreadsheet of the amounts Mann spent.
Mann cashed checks that were made out to him and is accused of false transactions at - in addition to Miller Supply - Home Depot, Lowes and Tractor Supply.
None of the checks made out to Mann or the transactions he made for personal use were authorized by the Klecknersville Rangers Fire Company, according to the affidavit.
Police said Mann admitted to cashing numerous checks, using the debit card for personal purchases at Home Depot, Lowes, Miller Supply ACE Hardware and Tractor Supply and for numerous ATM cash withdrawals without permission from the Klecknersville Rangers Fire Company.
In all, Mann is charged with unauthorized uses totaling $47,643. He faces charges of theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property.
Mann is currently free in lieu of $50,000 unsecured bail.
A preliminary hearing is set for March 28 before District Judge Robert A. Hawke, Walnutport.
