“Godspell” has been inspiring and entertaining audiences since the early 1970s, and this year Sing for America is bringing the musical to Bethlehem just in time for Easter.
The Bethlehem-based theatre group will present “Godspell” - where the Gospel story comes alive through music, laughter, tears and hope - on the day before Easter March 30 during a 1 p.m. performance at Blessed Trinity Lutheran Church at Rosemont, 1705 West Broad St.
“We are thrilled to bring this production to Rosemont,” said Bruce Gilbert, director of advancement and CEO of Sing for America.
Godspell is based on the Gospel of Matthew and is highly coveted around this time of year, the Lenten season for Christians around the world.
Gilbert is the father of Taryn, Tasia, Teara, Jewel and Jorne Gilbert, with Gilbert describing the siblings as “the heart of the group.”
You may even see our 19-month-old granddaughter, Cana, make her debut ‘Godspell’ appearance,” Gilbert said.
Blessed Trinity Lutheran Church at Rosemont was formed by the recent merger of Rosemont and Blessed Trinity Lutheran churches at the site of the former Rosemont Lutheran.
“We are excited to bring this fabulous experience of ‘Godspell’ the musical to the wonderful Rosemont Church,” Gilbert said. “Rosemont has been a partner of Sing for America over the years - they have been extremely helpful in helping us to prepare for upcoming performances.”
Gilbert said Sing for America has performed “Godspell” for many years and for many different audiences, as far away as Impact Church in Cherry Hill, N.J., to as close as Lafayette College in Easton.
“We have performed ‘Godspell’ for many schools as an assembly that featured a question and answer period at the end as well as many churches that absolutely loved the performance, especially this time of year,” Gilbert said.
“’Godspell’ features hit songs like “Day by Day” and “All Good Gifts,” and an overall excellent soundtrack full of hit songs that leads the audience through this fun yet emotional journey,” Gilbert said.
“This is a ‘don’t miss’ musical theatrical adventure. We hope to see everyone there.”
Tickets will be available at the door.
Sing for America produces Broadway-style musicals using actors of varied backgrounds, ages and levels of experience, elevating each cast member to his or her highest potential. Quality musicals, plays and original pieces are performed year round and made available to the public.
