LIBERTY: “The Music Man”

“The Music Man” marches into the spotlight, 7 p.m. March 21, 22, 23; 1 p.m. March 23, auditorium, Liberty High School, 1115 Linden St., Bethlehem.

Director Julie Wydrzynski is aided by Assistant Director Laura Mainiero, Choreographer Jennifer Dorn and Pit Orchestra Director Allen Frank. Set design is by Ross Makary.

There’s trouble in River City when con artist Harold Hill arrives in town, pretending to be a music professor.

Music and lyrics are by Meredith Willson, with book by Willson and Franklin Lacey.

The original 1957 Broadway production received five Tony Awards of nine Tony Award nominations. The cast album won the first Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album.

The 2000 Broadway revival garnered eight Tony Award nominations. The 2022 Broadway revival received six Tony Award nominations.

A screen adaptation of the musical was released in 1961.

Songs include “Seventy-Six Trombones,” “Ya Got Trouble,” “Pick-a-Little (Talk-a-Little)” and “Shipoopi.”
