A 17-year-old male was taken into custody March 12 after allegedly assaulting his mother and stealing a firearm from the family’s home, according to Upper Macungie Township police.

Police were called to a home in the 8800 block of Max Way in Green Acres Mobile Home Park, Breinigsville, after the teen’s mother reported he had assaulted her and possibly taken a handgun from the home.

Police allege the teen also made threats to harm family members.

During this incident, there was also a concern he had made threats directed at Lehigh Career and Technical Institute, Schnecksville.

As a result, LCTI restricted student and staff movement on campus at 12:50 p.m. that day and Pa. State Troopers responded to the school.

“Students must remain in their classrooms during the restriction, but regular instruction continues,” the LCTI website stated at the time.

However, it was later determined the only threats allegedly made were against his family, police say.

With the assistance of Pennsylvania State Police, Upper Macungie police searched the area but were not immediately able to locate him.

Police say at approximately 3 p.m. officers received a tip the teen was seen walking in the mobile home park.

According to police, officers arrived within minutes and took him into custody without incident.

The stolen handgun was located a short time later in the area.

Police say the teen will be charged with theft, possession of firearm by minor and harassment.
