SHS ‘The Spitfire Grill’ opens March 14
Salisbury High School Theatre will present “The Spitfire Grill” 7 p.m. March 14, 15 and 16 and 2 p.m. March 17 in the high school auditorium.
Having held auditions back in December 2023, cast members have been working diligently for weeks to make this one of the best musicals community members will see. With multiple show dates too, it can’t be missed.
“The Spitfire Grill” is based on the 1996 film by Lee David Zlotoff that shares the same name (but has a more musical-theater ending). Music and book is by James Valcq and lyrics and book by Fred Alley.
“The Spitfire Grill” shares the story of a young woman named Percy who was just released from prison. Percy finds herself in Gilead, Wis. and takes a job as a waitress at a diner. Working under the owner of The Spitfire Grill, Hannah (the owner) and Percy try to rebuild the rundown diner. In addition to these women, Shelby also joins the staff at the grill. These three women build and form an intense bond and reawaken joy throughout the town.
The cast of this musical includes: Chloe Jarjous as Perchance ‘Percy’ Talbott, Mady Williams as Hannah Ferguson, Faith Spellacy as Shelby Thorpe, Jonah Bittner as Sheriff Joe Sutter, Johnny Tran as Caleb Thorpe, Rae Schnable as Effy Craynec, Michael McWhorter as “The Visitor,” Anthony Jarjous as a townsperson/soloist/understudy for Caleb and Soledad Lauch as a townsperson/soloist/understudy for Shelby.
Olivia Cudd is the lead dancer: “The Spirit of Gilead.” Cassandra Daw plays a townsperson and soloist, Hope Spellacy plays a townsperson/soloist/dancer and Beatrice Carag plays a townsperson/dancer. Townspeople in “The Spitfire Grill” include Mason Milkovitz, Sophia Brancato and Elijah Richetti.
The musical is directed by Shannon Barry O’Grady. Musical director is Chad Miller. Set and costume design is by O’Grady. Set realization and execution is by technical director Chris West. Lighting design is by Henry Ingles. Choreography is by O’Grady and Cudd. Stage management is by Haily Bender.
Miller is featured on guitar and mandolin, Lucille Kincaid is featured on piano and Bruce Gaston is featured on violin.
Board operators are Bender and Rafael Carpo. Hair and makeup is by Janai Williams, Schnable and Gabriella DeJesus.

According to O’Grady, SHS Theatre has partnered with BattleBorne which “has made the story and our journey to tell it all the more moving and meaningful.”
BattleBorne is based in Allentown. Their mission is to “connect veterans with the resources needed to recover from mental, emotional and physical trauma so they can restore their lives and reintegrate into society. We achieve this through a collaborative effort of like-minded individuals and organizations, by leveraging both internal and external resources to assist veterans in our community.”

Due to the mature content shared and discussed within the musical, it is recommended children under the age of 10 do not attend the performances.
