Marjorie L. Dennis, 92, died peacefully in her Luther Crest apartment, March 6, 2024, with her children by her side. She was the wife of the late Edgar “Junny” Dennis Jr. until his death, Jan. 4, 2013. They were married for 59 years. She was the daughter of the late Roy and Elizabeth (Betty) Dundore, longtime proprietors of Dundore’s Rexall Pharmacy on the Emmaus Triangle.
She was a member of Emmaus High School Class of 1949 and graduated from Beaver College, now Arcadia University, majoring in education.
She was a member of St. John’s UCC Church, Emmaus.
She was a kindergarten teacher, then a first grade teacher her entire career in East Penn School District with her greatest teaching reward being “Seeing the light go on in each child’s eyes as they realize that they can read and write.”
She and her husband traveled the country for many years on guided bus trips. She enjoyed socializing and playing cards with her fellow ‘49ers at Luther Crest. She will be remembered as a feisty, though respectful, firecracker by those who knew her.
She is survived by children, Robert, of Emmaus, Brian and husband, Keith Breitfeller, of Philadelphia, Terri Thomas, of North Carolina, Chris and husband, Richard Newton Jr., of Kutztown; granddaughters, Tina Thomas, Kristina Newton and her companion, Ryan Woodland, Emma Newton.
