The Salisbury High School wrestling team competed in the District 11 Championships last Friday and Saturday. The Falcons entered nine grapplers in the event and seven of them won at least one match at the championships.

Sophomore Sam Krauss led the way with a sixth-place finish in the 285-pound weight class.

Competing in a weight class often dominated by upperclassmen, Krauss pinned his first opponent at districts, putting Brayden Krasnopera (Pen Argyl) on his back in just 54 seconds.

In the quarterfinals, Kruass met Cameron Green of Williams Valley, who pinned the Falcon in 2:20.

Krauss wrestled back with a pair of wins by fall to reach the medal round. He pinned Jeremius Molina (Mahanoy Area) in :42 then showed Scout Frantz (Pine Grove) the lights in :57 to secure a place in the medal round.

In a consolation semifinal that determined if Krauss would move on to the third-place match or the fifth-place match, Gino Guerrisi (Notre Dame GP) pinned Krauss in 3:59. Guerrisi went on to the third-place match and secured a place at the regional championships with the win. Krauss had to compete in a fifth-place match needing a win to advance.

Waiting for him in the fifth-place match was a familiar foe, Cameron Green of Williams Valley. Green pinned Krauss again, this time in 2:11, to take fifth place and keep the Falcon one win away from advancing to regionals.
