“Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella (Enchanted Edition)” dances to the stage in glass slippers, 7 p.m. March 15, 16; 2 p.m. March 17; auditorium, Catasauqua High School, 2500 W. Bullshead Road, Allen Township.

After being kicked around by her cruel stepmother and self-centered stepsisters, a young woman dreams of a better life.

With music by Richard Rodgers and book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, the musical is adapted for the stage by Tom Briggs from the 1957 CBS teleplay by Robert L Freedman that starred Julie Andrews.

The basis for the story is the fairy tale “Cendrillon, ou la petite pantoufle de verre” (“Cinderella, or The Little Glass Slipper”) by 17th-century French author Charles Perrault.

The television special received three 1957 Primetime Emmy Award nominations. Two televised versions followed in 1965 and 1997, as well as stage productions.

Notable songs include “The Sweetest Sounds,” “In My Own Little Corner,” “Ten Minutes Ago,” “Do I Love You Because You’re Beautiful?” and “There’s Music in You.”
