During the March 4 Macungie Borough Council meeting, it was announced Mavis Tire has drawn up plans to become part of Main Street Commons. The location will be near the car wash. The building will be 7,000 square feet with eight garage bays.
Concerns were expressed by residents over water, tree removal and commercial lighting. A resident near the area had concern about numerous trees being removed before the announcement. This project is expected to eliminate additional trees.
It was noted this area has a problem with water and this additional facility creates further concern for possible flooding.
Due to these issues, the project was tabled as additional information is required.
Concerns continue with the residents at the Fairways at Brookside over water drainage from other areas into their development. The discharged water is causing erosion and flooding within the area. This development is located in Lower Macungie and Macungie.
The water being discharged is coming from new developments. The Estates of Brookside and Fields at Brookside were mentioned along with Brookside Country Club. This will be researched further.
The Macungie Police Department has requested hiring two full-time police officers. In accordance with the Civil Service Commission, the two proposed officers are Matthew Miklich and Cole Surridge. This was approved.
Jeffrey Hartman and Alan Printz were reappointed to the zoning hearing board.
The Department of Public Works requested tree trimming at Village Walk. This was tabled for further research.
The department of public works requested Cintas Fire Protection perform backflow testing and inspection for $1,021.56 and alarm inspection for $612. Both were approved.
There was an executive session held regarding legal issues.
