A 35-year-old male, of Coopersburg, was taken into custody as part of a police investigation into a stabbing in an apartment in Coopersburg.
In a news release dated Feb. 21, Lehigh County District Attorney Gavin P. Holihan announced Manuel Garrido Jr. was in custody and charged with alleged aggravated assault and simple assault.
Court documents list charges in the case as aggravated assault with extreme indifference and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, both felonies; simple assault and possession of a weapon, both misdemeanors.
Garrido was scheduled to be arraigned Feb. 21.
The news release detailed the situation as follows:
At 7:42 a.m. Feb. 21, Coopersburg police were called to 421 Main St., Apt. 10, for a stabbing.
Authorities found a person with a stab wound to the chest.
The wounded person was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, for treatment.
A witness told police Garrido allegedly stabbed the person during an argument in the kitchen of the apartment.
According to authorities, Garrido is the tenant listed as living in the apartment where the stabbing occurred.
Police found a large, blood stained knife in the kitchen area, according to the news release.
Investigators also include Coopersburg Police Investigator William Nahrgang, Officer Robert Mathes and Chief Anthony Struss.
According to court documents accessible Feb. 25, Garrido was unable to post bail and was confined to Lehigh County Jail Feb. 21.
